Story & Atmosphere
Nestled in the heart of Ciudad de México, La guana stands out as a beacon for lovers of authentic desi cuisine. Located at C. Río Lerma 262-loc.A, this vibrant eatery captures the spirit of South Asian flavors, delivering dishes that are as bold as they are nuanced. My experience here was a symphony of rich spices and carefully crafted flavors, proving why La guana is frequently praised as a leader in its category.
The rooftop seating offers not only an inviting ambiance but also a stunning view, elevating the dining experience to something truly memorable. On a chilly evening, the thoughtful staff went above and beyond by arranging heated coals, creating a warm and cozy atmosphere that complemented the meal perfectly. This combination of attentive service and environment makes the restaurant a top choice for both casual dining and special occasions.
The menu speaks volumes through its standout dishes. The black pepper karahi was a revelation—succulent chicken cooked flawlessly with a vibrant blend of spices that excited the palate. The bihari boti held a perfect balance of dry and tender textures, with spices that lingered enticingly after each bite. The chicken kebabs were juicy and expertly grilled, showcasing the kitchen’s mastery over traditional barbecued delights. Notably, the portions are generous and offer great value, satisfying both hunger and taste buds alike.
Beyond the main courses, La guana impresses with its thoughtful additions like the rich, creamy kheer that rounds off the meal on a sweet note. The tea here deserves a mention as well—its robust flavor paired perfectly with the savory dishes and added an authentic touch to the overall dining experience. Patrons often highlight the quality and hospitality of the staff, who combine professionalism with a warm, welcoming attitude that enhances every visit.
While some reviews mention occasional service inconsistencies, the majority speak to a welcoming atmosphere, excellent food, and a rooftop setting that adds charm and character. For those seeking an immersive dive into desi culinary traditions fused with local hospitality, La guana in CDMX offers an unforgettable journey—one that excites the senses and invites repeated indulgence.

“ Average ambience with outstanding taste. By far the leader in desi cuisine. Highly recommended ”
“ We opted for the open rooftop seating on a cold night. We ordered the black pepper karahi, bihari boti, and chicken kebabs. The staff was very attentive and even arranged extra heated coals to keep us warm, which made the experience even better. The karahi was flavorful and made with fresh chicken. The bihari boti had well-balanced spices, slightly dry but still tender and easy to eat. The kebabs were also good, and fresh rotis were served promptly. Pricing was reasonable, especially for cold drinks, and the total bill was around PKR 5,000 for four people (excluding drinks) with generous portions. The manager personally guided us through bank card discounts ranging from 10% to 40%, which was a great bonus. Free and easy parking, even on a Saturday night. Overall it was a newr perfect experience. Highly recommend. ”
